companies successful. One common factor is
measuring performance, an element we use as an
effective tool when working with business
partners.
Growing employees must be the objective of any
company attempting to increase market share,
profits, internet presence, and/or customer
base. It is a fact,
“that if you cannot measure it you
cannot improve it”.
The measuring of a process or procedure is a
calculated course of action called the use of
Metrics. Metrics take into account Key Process
Indicator (KPI) that helps define critical steps
within the organizations internal and external
systems of operations.
Traditionally, KPI’s were known to be used in
areas of the business such as, Finance, or
Manufacturing, however the soft skilled areas
for instance; Customer Service, Supplier
Relationship, and Call Centers, are prime
examples of areas that benefit greatly from
implementing the correct KPI’s and will directly
improve your bottom line.
KPI’s assist in
guiding companies to make critical decisions
about systems, processes, and procedures that
effect business operations. These
performance
metrics allow companies to take a snap shot to
see why different processes or relationships are
producing a positive or negative outcome. The
use of Metrics also helps in establishing trends
and reactive modes for organization.
It can assist in
equipment purchasing and proper staffing. If the
correct performance metrics are enacted it will
drastically enhance you organization ability to
implement, react, respond, correct, and reduce
changes in your processes.
Bear in mind that the
KPI’s are only a snap shot in time and the
correct barometer have to be chosen to be
effective. Performance measurement may only be
the tip of information gathering, however it can
help focus, and identify the areas of
opportunity.
Each organization will
establish a Dashboard of calculated KPI’s which
may be tied to business objectives, and/or
critical success factors. Measuring is the
key to
improvement.
